thanks Anthony Cokes for making this page! From a 1986 interview with David Hammons

Great book by Stephen Wright called “Toward A Lexicon Of Usership” - printed by Van Abbemuseum, 2014. Should we get this for HLP? #art #peoplesendmegreatbooks

YO PHILLY! Join Marc & Salem on Wednesday night (April 2, 2014) at the Mural Arts program exhibition inside PAFA’s Hamilton building. It’s the newer building on Broad. We’re talking Temporary Services, Self-Reliance Library, books, working in groups… most likely our impressions of Philadelphia natives as well as spontaneous metal band reviews will come into play - always do!
Here’s the facebook invite. Join us - it’s free and you can take home a booklet & special Self-Reliance Library pencil FOR FREE.
Again - Wednesday 4/2/14, 6-8 pm (approx), at PAFA (Hamilton Building), 128 N. Broad St., PHILTHYDELPHIA!

Again - Wednesday 4/2/14, 6-8 pm (approx), at PAFA (Hamilton Building), 128 N. Broad St., PHILTHYDELPHIA!

We’re excited (and ecstatic) to embark on our first of two free events that we are hosting at the Beyond The Paint: Philadelphia’s Mural Arts exhibition in Philadelphia!
Join Salem from Temporary Services on Sunday, February 23, 2014 as she welcomes the Philadelphia group We The Weeds to the Self-Reliance Library. The event happens from 2-4 pm.
We The Weeds is preparing a generous presentation about their work as well as an interactive workshop on identifying sticks - the skeletal parts of plants that stay with us through the long winter.
Admission to PAFA is free every Sunday during the exhibition. Join us a little early and take a walk around the exhibit. Visitors to the Self-Reliance Library can pick up a free copy of our Self-Reliance Library booklet (2nd edition, made in conjunction with this exhibition), as well as a free special pencil while supplies last.
Save the date! Our next SRL event at the show will be on Sunday, March 23, 2014 with the good folks of the Prometheus Radio Project. Hope to see our Philadelphia-area friends at both events!

Charas is a document of a Lower East Side (NYC) community and their struggle to build a geodesic dome, beginning in the early 1960s with struggling New York City street life and systemic racism. Several men who would become CHARAS members led or were involved in gangs and moved in and out of prison while watching friends and loved ones succumb to drugs and violence. Carlos “Chino” Garcia and Angelo Gonzalez, Jr. two friends from the Lower East Side and involved in gang life from an early age, start the CHARAS story.
